It’s about that time of the year where you need to drain your above ground pool properly. Yes, summer has come and gone; so of course, it’s only normal to figure out how to store your pool and pack things away for the winter. While it’s not entirely necessary to drain your pool every now and then, there always comes a time when you absolutely need to so as to avoid cloudy water and impurities. And if you’re looking for a simple way to get the job done in minutes without spending much on maintenance, this post is just for you. We’re going to walk you through two super easy ways and steps to let all the water out.
Sounds good? Let’s get to it! What do you need? For the first method, you’ll need medium size water or vacuum pump. And second, a hose is required like a hose siphon. Now let’s explore each in detail.
How to Drain your Pool with a Pump
1. Start off by unrolling your pump’s intake hose all the way to the center of the pool and submerge the same into the water.
2. Be sure to place or arrange the outlet hose in such a way that water goes out (perfectly) without flooding the area and incurring another damage that would need professional repair services.
3. Now get a towel to dry your hands properly (you wouldn’t want your hands to be wet when operating the water pump).
4. All done? Just plug in the pump’s cord into the closest electric outlet and switch it on. At this point, you’ll do well to check that the pump is working perfectly. And of course, leave it to run its course.
5. While the entire process may take several hours to complete, it’s highly recommended to check on it from time to time. You would also want to monitor the water level to know when to turn off the pump.
6. Finally, be sure to turn off the pump once you notice that the water level is too low to be drained.
How to Drain your Pool with a Hose Siphon
To pull this off, you’ll need to get yourself a couple of hoses (although one may be just enough to get the job done). We’ll also recommend you avoid using your mouth to start the process — of course, you wouldn’t want to end up swallowing lots of pool water!
Let’s get started.
1. Got more than one hose? If yes, you’re in luck — the pool will be drained much quicker than expected. Now submerge each into the water completely.
2. Afterward, lift one end of each of the hoses out of the pool and lay on the ground (while ensuring that the other end remains completely submerged in water)
How to remove the remaining water after draining with a pump or hose? Well, just open the drain plug. You can also dismantle the pool until you can free the liner. Afterward, you should be able to turn over the liner or better still use a broom to sweep out any water that may be left behind.
